Visual Artist and Secondary Art Teacher
"When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."
- Leonardo da Vinci
Marissa Maree is an Australian artist who works primarily in the fields of painting and photography. She also has a passion for design, drawing and mixed media, often blending these forms.
Her appreciation and love for the earth's landscape and landforms is reflected in her abstract paintings through replicating the birds-eye perspective from the photographs she captures. It is within the multiple layers that you are exposed to 3D characteristics, as the intricacies of pattern and detail are revealed. Through attention to colour psychology and theory, Marissa Maree manipulates various materials and processes to form unpredictable, unique works of art. Her designs resemble that of personal travel encounters and highlight the beauty of meditative patterns and colours within the earth and manmade infrastructure, as a vehicle for expression.
Photographically, alongside travel encounters Marissa Maree explores on a personal level her experience and relationship with issues of culture, perception, identity and memory in spaces of intriguing flux. She has a strong passion for capturing her subjects in instantaneous moments of everyday life.
Marissa Maree has completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Photo Media) at the Australian National University, with a six month Exchange Program at the Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland. She then went on to complete Post-Graduate studies with a Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) at the Australian Catholic University, Sydney, specialising in Visual Arts, Visual Design, and Photography and Digital Media Arts education. As well as pursuing her love for creating artworks, Marissa Maree is a dedicated high school art teacher, endeavouring to make a difference in the young minds of tomorrow.
